Privacy Policy

This is a translation for convenience. The German version is legally binding: Deutsch.

In short: no registration, no advertising, no tracking cookies without your consent. Your learning progress stays in your browser. We only receive an email address if you ask for a word list.

No data protection officer has been appointed, as there is no legal obligation to do so.

2. Hosting and server logs

The site runs on Cloudflare, Inc. (101 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA). For every page request Cloudflare processes technically necessary data: IP address, date and time, requested address, referrer URL, and browser and device information, in order to deliver the site securely and quickly and to fend off attacks (e.g. DDoS). Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. A data processing agreement is in place. Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework; EU standard contractual clauses also apply. Logs are kept only briefly.

3. Storage in your browser (local storage)

Your learning progress, chosen language and cookie choice are stored only locally in your browser and are never sent to us. This storage is strictly necessary for the function you request (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG; Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can delete it at any time in your browser settings. Details: Cookie Policy.

4. Word lists by email

When you request a word list, we process your email address, the chosen level and language to send you the list (PDF and Excel). Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR. Your email address is not stored after sending unless you also sign up for news (section 5).

To prevent abuse we keep a daily counter containing only an irreversible, keyed hash of your IP address or email address; these counters are deleted after 7 days at the latest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). For statistics we keep only the time, level and language of requests, without email address, for up to 90 days.

Emails are sent via Resend (Resend, Inc., San Francisco, USA), processing in the EU region (Ireland), under a data processing agreement; any transfer to the USA is covered by EU standard contractual clauses (Art. 46 GDPR).

5. News (email newsletter)

If you tick the "news" box, we will email you about new lessons and stories, based on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You must be at least 16 years old.

Double opt-in: you receive an email with a confirmation link and are only subscribed after clicking it. To prove your consent we store your email address, language, level and the times of sign-up and confirmation. Unconfirmed sign-ups are deleted after 30 days.

Withdrawal: you can withdraw your consent at any time via the unsubscribe link in every email or by writing to draganaremic@hotmail.com.

6. Cloudflare Web Analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many pages are viewed and where visitors come from. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device and builds no user profiles; data is aggregated (page views, referrer, country, device type). Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

7. Read-aloud and voice answers

Read-aloud uses your browser's or operating system's speech output; no data is sent to us. If you choose to answer by microphone, speech recognition is performed by your browser: Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge send the audio to their maker's speech service (Google or Microsoft) to convert it into text, under that company's privacy policy. The recording and the recognised text are not sent to us and not stored; the recording stays in your browser only until you close the page. You can always answer in writing instead.

8. Answer checking, sharing and fonts

Your answers to story questions are checked inside your browser and not sent to us. The share feature uses no social media plugins; you are only taken to the network (e.g. WhatsApp) when you click a link. Fonts are loaded from our own server; there is no connection to Google Fonts.

9. Contact by email

If you email us, we use your details to answer your enquiry (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR) and delete them once it has been dealt with.

10. Your rights

You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (16), erasure (17), restriction (18), data portability (20) and to withdraw consent at any time (7(3)). Right to object (Art. 21): where we rely on Art. 6(1)(f), you may object at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation. You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77). There is no automated decision-making or profiling.
