When someone else does something for you.

have something done

have + object + past participle. We don't do it ourselves — we pay or ask someone else.

I had my hair cut yesterday.

We're having the kitchen painted.

She had her car repaired.

Same meaning, a bit more informal. Also used for unpleasant things that happen to us.

I need to get my eyes tested.

He got his phone stolen on the bus.an unpleasant event

Tip: “I cut my hair” means you did it yourself. “I had my hair cut” = a hairdresser did it.

I don't know how to fix it, so I'm going to ___ my laptop repaired.
She had her nails ___ at the salon.
We're getting our house ___ next week. (paint)
The sentence “I had cut my hair at the hairdresser's.” is grammatically correct.
